Immersive light installation by Róisín Ní Chionnfhaolaidh
The concept
Róisín Ní Chionnfhaolaidh’s immersive light installation reflects on migration, displacement, and the fragile state of passage between worlds. The viewer is drawn into a quiet, meditative landscape where coracles glide across water and ritual lights drift slowly, suggesting journeys both physical and spiritual.
The space recalls a harbour scene, large rusted vessels and gently moving sailboats cast wavering shadows, inviting us to journey alongside them. Róisín collaborated with film maker Fiona Aryan to create the animated film projection for this piece.
An artist talk will take place alongside the installation.

Róisín Ní Chionnfhaolaidh lives and works in Baile’n Sceilg, in South Kerry, where the coastal landscape and changing light deeply inspire her practice. A native of the Gaeltacht of An Rinn, County Waterford, she trained as a glass designer at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, and later studied the technical aspects of hot glass at the International Glass Centre in Birmingham, England. She has worked in studios across Europe and travelled widely in Asia and India, experiences that continue to inform her work.
About the artist
Róisín creates contemporary glass panels for architectural settings achieving the effects of texture and depth by combining techniques such as layering, acid etching and kiln forming to produce fossil-like patterns on her glass. Róisín’s work has been exhibited widely and she has completed many private and public commissions. She is very active in community arts and has been interviewed many times on Tg4 and Radio na Gaeltachta, having also worked as a presenter on the Arts programme Imeall on Tg4 for many years.
Her practice is increasingly focused on site-specific environmental installations. These works respond to their surroundings, using natural light, water, and movement to create immersive, contemplative experiences.
Her work has been shown internationally, including at the International Glass Biennale, Sofia (2025), with support from Culture Ireland.
Notable projects include:
Crithlionnar (2011)
Loinnir (2012)
Solas sa Chaisleán (2013)
Uaim Uait (2014)
The short film Órlasta (2022) was developed following an arts bursary from Ealaín na Gaeltachta, capturing the evolving dialogue between landscape, light, and water.
